Interactive Vernier caliper lets students explore linear measurement, read main and vernier scales, and see…
Vernier calipers are precision instruments used to measure small distances with high resolution. The simulation displays a realistic caliper with a main scale and a sliding vernier scale, allowing students to see how the two scales work together to give readings finer than the smallest division on the main scale.
Students can drag the sliding jaw or the vernier scale and observe the changing positions of the tick marks. By aligning the zero of the vernier with a main‑scale division and noting the coincident tick, they can determine the measured length and calculate the instrument’s least count.
This activity reinforces concepts of measurement uncertainty, significant figures, and the practical use of a Vernier caliper in laboratory settings.
